Grandma Collette's Fudge

Our grandma always made the BEST fudge-it was only recently we found out it where she found the recipe, but we won't tell!
Ingredients
2 1/2 cups of sugar
3/4 teaspoon of salt
1/2 stick of butter
1 can of evaporated milk (5 oz.)
1 jar of marshmallow fluff (7 1/2 oz.)
3/4 teaspoon of vanilla
1 package of semi-sweet chocolate chips (12 oz.)
1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

1. Grease a 9 inch square baking pan.
2. In a large saucepan, combine the sugar, salt, butter, evaporated milk, and fluff.  Stir over low heat til blended.
3. Increase heat to medium and bring to a boil.  Don't mistake escaping air bubbles for boiling!
4. Boil slowly, and stir constantly for 5 minutes.
5. Remove from heat, and stir in the vanilla and the chocolate until the chocolate is melted.
6. Stir in nuts, if wanted.
7. Pour into the greased baking pan.  We like to use a fork on the top of the fudge at this point so that the finished fudge isn't smooth.
8. Allow to cool until hard, about 2 hours.
This is honestly the best fudge recipe!  We did learn that it isn't an original recipe, but we'll still pretend it is!  Hint:  This makes an awesome and delicious (and inexpensive) Christmas or Valentine's Day gift!
