Doggy Treats

Riley's Favorite Dog Treats
Have you ever heard of a dog being a picky eater? We hadn't either until our dog, Riley joined the family. She won't eat most dog treats we get her. It's even hard to find people-food she enjoys (she'll only eat Cheez-its and bacon). So when we came across a healthy recipe for dog cookies we thought we might as well give it a try.

Ingredients
3/4 cup whole wheat flour
1/4 cup oats
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup soy milk
1/2 cup smooth peanut butter (preferably salt and sugar free)
1/2 tbsp honey

1. Stir together in a medium-sized bowl flour, oats, and baking powder.
2. Stir in milk, peanut butter and honey.
3. On a floured surface, knead the mixture until it is a soft dough.
4. Roll out to 1/3" thick and cut with cookie cutters. (We chose hearts, cats (lol), initials (R for Riley, C for our friend's dog, Chloe and K for other friend's dog Kona), and stockings for Christmas.
5. Put cookies on a tray with parchment paper on it and bake at 350ยบ for about 15 minutes, maybe longer. The cookie should be firm to touch but not burnt. If it's a little soft in the middle that's OK, just take it out and it'll harden when it's cooling on the tray.
The cookies should last 2 weeks in an airtight container, 4 weeks if refrigerated, 6 months if frozen.

Riley LOVED these treats! They're like doggy crack. She has never done a trick more desperately. The treats also made for a great cute present for our friends.
